Support for private companies expanding overseas
Emerging and developing countries that have achieved stable economic growth are becoming increasingly important as business expansion destinations for Japanese companies, not only from the perspective of low labor costs and inexpensive production bases, but also from the perspective of market size (large consumer population) and entry opportunities and business possibilities due to the rise in local purchasing power, and many Japanese companies have already entered these countries. In particular, there is a growing demand for Japanese technologies, products, and services that can contribute to solving the development issues facing these countries.
However, the business costs and human resource burden associated with expanding overseas is a major hurdle for small and medium-sized enterprises, and without local business environment research and networks, the business becomes high-risk.
JDI's approach and know-how in supporting private companies' overseas expansion
JDI has supported the overseas expansion of companies in various fields (more than 35 cases) mainly in ASEAN countries, South Asia, Oceania, and Central Asia through proposal-based overseas business expansion support schemes called "Small and Medium-sized Enterprise Support Type" and "SDGs Business Support Type," which are implemented as part of the private sector partnership projects by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for Japanese companies aiming to expand overseas.
In addition to accumulating knowledge and know-how gained through these projects, JDI has built networks and relationships of trust with government agencies and local private companies in various countries. We also provide comprehensive support, including collecting information necessary for overseas expansion according to the client's current situation and requests, providing know-how on research methods and preparations, investigating development issues faced by local governments and society, market research, local partner research, competitive research, investigating related legal systems, planning and implementing investigations such as transportation and customs clearance (local and domestic), as well as negotiating with related government agencies, promoting products through presentations, proposing potential sites for business expansion and factory establishment, and analyzing various risks and issues and proposing mitigation measures and means.
We form specialized teams tailored to the fields, countries, and regions in which our clients' businesses and proposed products will be entered, and provide flexible, tailored support to our clients from the planning stage through to the completion of research and the achievement of overseas expansion, in order to resolve various issues and concerns related to research and operations overseas.
Examples of target areas
Agriculture
In developing countries, the form of agriculture is changing due to recent economic development, increasing population and food demand, and rising labor costs. Efficiency and mechanization are rapidly progressing in each process of production, harvesting, and transportation, and various demands (markets) are tending to expand.
Environment and Energy
Various Japanese products with advanced technology in the environmental and energy fields are highly regarded and becoming popular overseas. Products and technologies that are already difficult to expand into the Japanese market have countless possibilities for market entry overseas, and can be used to improve people's lives.
Waste disposal
The rapid increase in resource consumption due to industrialization and urbanization in developing and emerging countries, as well as the rise in income of ordinary citizens, has given rise to many problems caused by waste. There is an increasing need for waste treatment and incineration technologies, recycling technologies, and volume and weight reduction technologies that comply with environmental standards.
Infrastructure and road development
Roads and other infrastructure developments that are essential for economic activity and industrialization provide an arena in which a wide range of industries can enter, including not only the physical technologies involved in design and construction, but also management systems using IT technology, surveying techniques using drones and satellites, and the use of big data.
